Free Word / Excel Password Recovery Wizard offers the same functionality and performance as expensive commercial Word password / Excel password software, but is a completely free download. We developed our own free password recovery package specifically to address the high cost of commercial password software.
Our easy to use software runs on any Windows 9x and later PC and recovers file open passwords (not sheet passwords though) for Word / Excel 97 to Word / Excel XP 2003 files. It works by trying words from a large dictionary (included with the download) against the file, then tries character combinations to find most common file open passwords.
Recovering long and complex Word or Excel passwords may take a long time due to the billions of passwords that may need to be tested. In this case, you may wish to try Ultimate Zip Cracker software or Decryptum. They use a different approach which opens the file without needing to find the password. Decryptum can open most Word / Excel files in under a minute for only $29.

Have you forgot the password for your Excel workbook? this application may be able to help. In my case it cracked the password on the first try and did so fairly quickly. I was lucky that password was only 6 alpha characters (no numbers or symbols). It would being interesting to see how it does against an 8 character alpha-numeric password.
